Lake in Midland County, presently housing our management,
maintenance, and training operations.
In the near future we will

Douglass Safety Systems (DSS) was formed in 1993
for the express purpose of providing high-quality equipment and service to
fire departments in Michigan. I had long appreciated the drive and
commitment of fire-fighters and knew that I could be equally committed in
serving their needs.
Armed with 10 years of previous experience in
safety equipment, I wanted to offer the best of the best to the fire safety
community, so I set the stage with products like ISI’s Magnum, the first
SCBA designed from the ground up exclusively for the fire service. Soon,
respected relationships were formed, product lines were expanded and DSS
grew to meet increasing demand.
Today’s team includes six regional salespeople
covering Michigan and two maintenance technician's, all supported by
an extremely competent support staff in our new Sanford Michigan location.
Our sales force is a collection of professional firefighters, both active
and retired, from across Michigan who know their products and understand
your applications. They can relate to you, and you will not be
dissatisfied.
Our product lines offer everything that a
firefighter may carry, wear or stuff in his truck. From the air you breathe
to the shoes you walk in, we offer top-quality products for the tough
demands of your job – to protect you every step of the way. We carry, for
example, ISI – known for the most advanced fire fighting Self Contained
Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Thermal Imagers available today. We also
carry Bacou-Dalloz's, Securitex and Fire Gear Turnout Gear, providing the
broadest offerings of hi-tech outer shells in the industry, as well as a new
flag in our fleet Survivair SCBA's . You can also order American Made, Hypress Air
Compressors and Fill Stations manufactured in Oklahoma City, and Verde’s
Microbial Fire Suppressants MicroBlaze-Out that consumes contaminates of the
fire ground, leaving it cleaner than before the fire started. Lines such
as Conway Helmets, Shelby Gloves, BW Gas Detection, Pelican Flashlights and
HAIX Leather Boots round out our product offering.
I am one of those lucky men who truly enjoy what
I do for a living, but am the first to admit I could not have done this
alone. I owe a debt of gratitude to my employees and a few very patient
Fire Chiefs who encouraged and guided me early on, but most crucial is the
support and sacrifice made by my wife Patti and my sons, Ryan, Trevor and
Adam. Without their support and sacrifice, along with my bride’s encouraging
words at those most needed times, this company could not have been a
possibility.
So thank you for welcoming my company into your
departments. It has been the most satisfying and enjoyable decade of my
life, and I look forward to an equally rewarding future as we all work
together to keep you safe.
